Risk-Based Thinking & Decision Making

Tuesday, January 26, 2021 -
5:00pm to 6:30pm

We live in an environment rife with volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA).  Navigating in these waters is not easy.  Business professionals know the pain and chaos that can come from a serious risk realized – a missed delivery, quality problems / recalls, an unanticipated decline or swell in demand, or even a pandemic.  Root cause analysis of an unexpected crisis is essential, but reactive.  Risk-based decision making enables companies to take a proactive approach, considering potential risks and assessing impacts as part of every decision, building prevention and risk mitigation into every aspect of the business.

In this session you will gain an understanding of:
•    A VUCA environment
•    5 domains of decision making
•    4 types of decisions
•    3 Factors for successfully managing the change to risk-based thinking and decisions

Key Point: Risk is everywhere and should be considered in daily activities, and all decision-making exercises.  Here are some ways to incorporate into your routines.

Jane founded purple link in 2015, recognizing there’s a better way to obtain value and achieve results from and through supply chains.  Clients discover innovative ways to identify waste and risk that leak dollars from the supply chain and drain the bottom line. Through collaboration with stakeholders and suppliers, purple link’s approach reduces both cost and risk and clients sustain savings year-over-year.

Jane earned degrees in Industrial and MBA in business.  Passionate about Lean & Six Sigma, she’s a certified green belt and a Certified Professional Supply Manager (CPSM) and Certified Professional in Supplier Diversity (CPSD).

In addition to running her business, she teaches Operations Management & Supply Chain Strategies at California State University Northridge and serves on the advisory board for the California State Long Beach Operations & Supply Chain Management program.  In 2020 she co-founded the So-Cal SCRM Council for local executives focused on Supply Chain Risk Management.  A speaker / author, she offers bi-weekly Dynamic Dialog webinars and conducts workshops on a variety of topics.  Her first book is due out in 2021.
